Requirements

The Schuylkill Ballet Theatre began in 1979 performing the “Nutcracker” ballet for audiences for the Christmas season. The company has grown to over 35 members that includes ballet dancers from both Schuylkill and Berks counties. SBT puts on 2 full length ballets each year, an annual Spring Show and “The Nutcracker.”

If you or your son/daughter is interested in taking their classical ballet training to the next level, here are a few things to consider.

The Schuylkill Ballet Theatre is not considered a dance studio. We are comprised of students from local dance studios who want to further their training in classical ballet. Many of our advanced dancers train at their local dance studios multiple days of the week and some train at multiple studios to gain as much training as possible. Our company’s purpose is to give the ‘serious ballet dancer’ an opportunity to perform full length ballets in a pre-professional ballet company- the only opportunity of its kind in Schuylkill County.

We accept dancers beginning at 7 years of age who have had at least 2-3 years of classical ballet training. All members must belong to a dance studio and must take weekly classical ballet classes. Dancers who are on pointe need to have at least 2-3 years of pointe training to be considered for our Apprentice levels. Soloist roles are given to our Senior members who are advanced in ballet training and pointe work.

If you / your dancer would like to pursue a serious interest in classical ballet, then our company might be for you. We suggest attending our “Nutcracker” or “Spring Show” performances to see our group in action. After each performance, we hold an Open House for any interested dancers to take a free class, meet our staff, and find out more information about Schuylkill Ballet Theatre.

Please contact Janet at 570-617-5616 or email us at: info@schuylkillballet.com if you have any further questions.
